I signed up for a year of Pure Yoga yesterday. My back has been killing me these past few months, probably because of my poor posture and lack of exercise. I have been going for massages and physiotherapy sessions but those are not enough.
Of course exercise is also good for weight loss, but I know yoga isn’t the best for it, so that’s not my goal here, but purely to just feel fitter, because yoga is the exercise I enjoy the most, as it makes me feel relaxed afterwards, unlike running and all the other things like HIIT, which I used to do in Singapore with a personal trainer.
Pure Yoga happens to have a studio which is like a 5 minute walk from home and a 25 minute walk from office, so I really ought to take advantage of my premium location.
Back in Singapore many years ago, a friend and I signed up for True Yoga membership but we found it very difficult to keep on going because the location was too far away from our home and office. We couldn’t go after work because we always had to do overtime, so we had to wake up very early in the morning. So we ended up wasting our membership later. Hopefully that doesn’t happen now.
I have free sessions for the entire July as part of their promo, and so far I’ve tried 4 easy sessions.
I’ve learned from previous experience that it’s not good to immediately join a hard class. It brings to mind a moment when my friends and I literally crawled out of our first hot yoga session and lay down on the benches in the locker room, because we were too dizzy. I definitely do not want a repeat of that!
Anyway, I really enjoyed a session called yoga for office workers, which is exactly what I need. The first pose which involved lying down on yoga blocks really felt good for my upper back. Another one I enjoyed was a warm and relaxing yoga which starts and ends by lying on a bolster in a warm room.
I of course also want to lose weight but I know that exercise isn’t the key to that – diet is. So I will try to eat less carbs whenever I can. I started today by saying no to ice cream and making my own keto-approved cream-based cocoa shake instead.
