I turned 40 on the 7th of this month. Since it’s a milestone birthday, I filed a whole week of vacation leaves and was originally thinking of traveling somewhere, but in the end I got too lazy to figure out how to do that because the Covid rules have not yet been dropped completely in Hong Kong. I just decided to spend the days getting pampered in different ways, like getting a manicure, a facial, permed lashes, and a haircut and balayage dye at Toni and Guy. Later in the month, May and I also got a massage at Elu Spa.
I also ate all the food I liked and went shopping. I ended up buying a belt and the Tory Burch minnie flats that I’ve been crushing on for ages. I thought I liked the camel coloured ones, but when I wore that and the black side by side, I realized I liked the black more. I also bought a second hand YSL wallet on chain from Vestiaire.
On my birthday itself, my friend King sent over some pastries and a bottle of wine at night. I stuck a candle on it because the Foodpanda shop she got it from didn’t have one even though she requested for it.
Staycation @ Rosewood
Then on Saturday, I booked a staycation at Rosewood Hotel. I’ve always liked the way their rooms looked on Instagram, especially their beautiful marble-designed bathroom.
They are one of the few Hong Kong hotels that allow cats, so I brought my cat Froyo with me. They had cat treats for him as well. He should have been happy, but he wasn’t because… well, cats apparently don’t like being in new places. So that’s something I need to remember for the future!
My friends arrived to pick me up for our dinner, and surprised me with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers.
We headed to Hutong, a restaurant with a gorgeous rooftop view for dinner. The ordered a bunch of dishes including Peking duck, but the best dishes for us was the lava sea salt & caramel chocolate mochi and the salted egg yolk prawns.
After we had dinner, we headed back to the hotel and they had a surprise for me! It turns out Mico (who is May’s husband and did not join us for dinner) had gone into the room and decorated it with balloons while we were at dinner. May had pretended she forgot something to double back and let him into the room. They’re all so sweet!
We had Ube cake for dessert and played board games until late into the night. Such a fun birthday party!
Birthday Gifts
Aside from that sweet surprise from my Hong Kong friends, they also gave me a Hermes perfume set. Then my other friends from abroad sent me gifts as well – my first ever Tiffany’s item – a necklace with a heart-shaped pendant, Pandora heart-shaped earrings to go with them, Jo Malone Nectarine blossom and honey perfume, and a Lane Crawford gift card which I used to buy a GHD platinum styler. I have such generous friends!
