I signed up for an Oktoberfest party that someone posted on the Girl Gone International Facebook group.
Luckily, some new friends whom I met at the junk boat party were also interested, so we all headed over to the venue – Cleo, a bar in Central – together on the 15th, a Saturday night.
The invite said we could dress up in dirndls, the official Oktoberfest dress, but since we didn’t have them, we cobbled together outfits that seem close.
Charlotte, the redhead on the right, came the closest, and even got a prize for it.
But that wasn’t the only prize she ended up getting that night, because she also went on to win the beer glasses lifting contest. This is a contest where they asked several women to lift a total of 4 glasses of beers on each hand and the one who lifted them the most number of times won. I couldn’t even lift them once! I settled for 2 glasses in each hand.
We each paid H$450 per pax to get 2 hours of free flow beer and Prosecco. Heather and I were glad they offered Prosecco because we don’t like beer and typically, Oktoberfest is about beer.
They also offered ala carte food for sale, and I got to taste a sausage when someone ordered some, and it was delicious.
There were was also German music and games. It was a fun night overall.
After the event, we headed towards Lan Kwai Fong and somehow found ourselves in a club called Geronimo, where we had more drinks and danced. A rugby player even danced with me. Charlotte introduced me to gin lemonade, and now I have a new go-to drink.
Afterwards, while we were walking away from the club, we encountered a drunk lady wailing on the stairs, so my friends tried to help her out. It was difficult to communicate because she and the three men she was with were not good at speaking English. It took a while and got a bit contentious with her boyfriend who kept on yelling at her, but in the end, my friends managed to convince her to get into a cab and go home, and so did we.
It was definitely an interesting night!
