I organized an Archery trial class with Golden Trust Archery for Girl Gone International* last July 15. They have English classes available on Saturdays at 5 to 7 pm at their Fortress Hill branch. A trial lesson lasts 2 hours and can hold a maximum of 12 individuals. They quoted me H$3,800 for the session, so each individual paid H$317.
I managed to get enough sign-ups on Facebook as well as my friends May, Ashley and Jo.
On the day of the event, we showed up at the building and got a bit misled by the arrow which was part of the Golden Trust Archery logo. We thought it meant we had to follow the arrow! 😅
Our coach was a friendly foreigner who taught us how to put on protective gear. I made sure to put it on correctly this time because years ago, I put it on backwards and ended up with huge bruises on my upper arm.
Our coach then gave a thorough explanation of the proper way to hold a bow, put on an arrow, and release it. He then made us step up one by one and coached us individually. He fixed our form and did such a good job that I was surprised when my very first shot hit paper and not the ceiling or something.
After everyone was done, we then shot 12 arrows at a time in batches of 4. I was surprisingly good at this, most of the time hitting the target center. “It must be because I’m wearing an Avengers shirt!” I told them. The girls laughed and called me Hawkeye.
Everyone said they really enjoyed the session and wanted to do it again. In fact someone signed up for more lessons right then and there. She said she had always wanted to and didn’t know they had this near where she lives.
When I posted about this on Instagram and tagged the official GGI account, I got a voicemail from the GGI founder who said that she thought this event looked so fun and then she thanked me for organizing it. 🤩
