I welcomed 2024 on a junk boat to watch Hong Kong’s first proper new year fireworks since Covid happened. We just paid for the boat rental (350 hkd each) and brought our own food and drinks, so it was way cheaper than others (apparently in Klook they sold for as much as 1000 hkd), which is probably why it sold out as early as November. I’m glad I snapped up my slot really quickly!
We had to board the boat and leave the Central pier at 7pm due to government regulations. We ate, drank, and danced for 5 hours while the boat drifted on the sea until midnight.
It was warm at the beginning of the evening but the wind on the sea made it cold. I wore polka dots – a Filipino new year tradition to attract prosperity. I found my dress on Cider. Bless that site for having a curve collection! It’s extremely difficult to find cool plus size clothes in Hong Kong!
The fabulous fireworks lasted around 12 minutes. We were all so amazed and happy with our view, though the best view is from land. But I wouldn’t have enjoyed standing in a queue for 5 hours! This was a better experience overall, and I’d highly recommend it!
Below are reels of the fireworks and the party.
Speaking of reels, I also made a reel of my 2023 highlights – my year of revenge travel – see below. We also made a Banana Q podcast episode about it here.
