We girls were watching “Interview with the Vampire” on my laptop in our living room when Maya’s voice came from outside the window asking us to open the door. I opened it after her persistent knockings. But instead of her, who should come in but Johann, our college batchmate, the one we hadn’t seen since graduation! That certainly sent all of us screaming.
After a barrage of questions and hugging, we found out that Johann was in Makati for a two-week training for work and that he and Maya had seen each other, coincidentally, in Powerbooks Greenbelt. The hangout for intellectuals indeed. Then Gay and Zeny had to leave for mass, leaving me and Maya to entertain our visitor. Since we had no TV (yet..hopefully we’ll have one before the summer is over), we had to resort to my laptop once again.
We have had several visitors in our apartment since we’ve moved in.
The first one was Tupe, our college classmate whom we hadn’t seen since graduation as well. He also had a training for work that’s why he had the chance to visit us in Makati. I asked him to meet us in Powerbooks Greenbelt as well, but my other housemates didn’t know he was here then. I wanted it to be surprise. When they saw him, they started a screaming fit and didn’t care that other people were looking at us. Tupe, our kachoks, was our most-missed classmate! He was with us when we went house-hunting, helped us to move our stuff, and even slept over at our place on our first night there. He was also there for the house blessing.
Fr. DJ, our favorite priest teacher, was in Manila for medication and a vacation, so we asked him to bless our house. He brought Mike, also a student of his, for the blessing, and after he blessed the place, we all ate some of the food we prepared. Tupe and Mitos, Gay’s bestfriend, were also our guests. Fadz kept saying over and over how proud he was of us and our house.
Nald’s dad had to undergo an operation in Manila and stayed over in our apartment for its duration. With him were Nald’s brother and cousin. They donated our stove and first cooking utensils and gave us our first taste of real home-cooked food after months of making do with fastfood and carinderia food. Inun-unan never tasted so delicious.
Regie’s dad stayed over for a couple of days while they had a family reunion.
For Ateneo Fiesta, Fr. DJ gave us some money to buy food for our feast. Of course we did not forget his favorite blueberry cheesecake. We also invited Silvie and Tupe over.
For the Christmas break, my friend Betang stayed over with us because her roommates in her dorm were all going home for the holidays. She was a welcome addition to the house who missed three members when they went home.
Gay’s brother Joseph and his friend James had noche buena with us at our place. They even spent the night drinking with Junjun, who ended up looking like he had donned a spiderman suit without the blue and black lines (go figure).
Maya’s sister and our teacher Joan slept over for a couple of weeks while she had a convention for GSIS. “Ate”certainly had a lot of stories and advice to share. It was fun playing badminton with her, too.
Caloy didn’t even tell me until the moment he was in Manila that he intended to vacation here. We girls fetched him in Glorietta and brought him to our house. He had fun with my laptop though his stay was short, coz he had a curfew. Yes. 21 years old and still with a curfew.
Dex had to be in Manila for a couple of days for an exam and asked if he could stay over. But of course the answer’s yes! There’s just the teensy weensy problem of who’s gonna bring you to the house on a workday? Yours truly came to the rescue and asked her boss for a leave. He allowed her, but not after a sermon on the mount. Geez.
Gay’s older brother Ton stayed overnight before he went back to his place of duty (I forgot where..I’m terrible with details!).
Yes, our house is open to all our friends. So if you’re in the area, just give us a call!
