In the midst of the awarding ceremonies, Chu and I made our way over to Boss Ed, our favorite director and part of our “office barkada.” I was pointing to Chu, indicating that he should be congratulated for being so “showy” and garnering an award. Instead, he took my hand and shook it, congratulating me. Then he pulled me close and said that he was missing me already.
Even though I’m excited about leaving, I know that I will have regrets about it as well.
I will definitely miss the friends I met while working for this auditing firm. I’ll miss our hour-long merienda breaks at the 9th floor or the pantry, our dinners at fancy places, our getaways in resorts or in videoke VIP rooms. I’ll miss our emails and hitting “reply to all” when I want to comment on something someone in our barkada said that I want everyone else to know. I’ll miss our stories and jokes and complaints and gossip.
I’ll even miss the office – the elevator, the ninth floor, the carpeted floors and cubicles and sensor-detecting faucets and the freezing cold air-conditioning and the water dispenser.
And most of all I will miss my laptop. Haha.
