Over lunch we were once again experiencing stomachache not from food poisoning but too much laughter. Somehow our conversation got steered to kiddie games and they were all amazed at all the game chants/songs I knew which they had never heard before. They said, “talented pala ang mga taga Mindanao, no.” I was the only one who spent her childhood years in Mindanao, which might explain why we had different childhood games.
Here are some of the lines I sang that they didn’t know:
- Simpson Simpson tell the name of persons that cannot be repeated anymore, for example
- Max Alvarado barado ang ilong, Tonny Ferrer mahilig sa baril, Vivian velez mahilig sa alis
- Si Maria Makiling pumunta sa bayan mellow yellow chip chip chip
- Appear, oishi. Hindi na uso yan. Ilagay dito, ilagay dito.
- Cross down and peter plus one you’re learning wonderwoman
- Knock knock! Who’s there? Mother wolf. What do you want? Eggs. What color?
Despite our different hometowns, though, we still shared something in common as kids. Shaider! Maskman! Jem and the Holograms! The next thing you know we were busy mentioning names and episodes. I could still even sing their opening credits! If you can’t relate, then maybe you’re not a child of the 80’s and could try watching replays of “Shaider” on Hero channel. If you can, then you might enjoy these:
