Beauty Break

Over lunch break, instead of eating lunch or reading a book, I decided to head over to Sasa, located near Carrefour in Suntec City second floor. This morning I had noticed that my eyebrows were a mess, and I realized that it was time to pay a visit to Sasa‘s resident makeup artist for a free eyebrow grooming session. I like having Suriatie groom my brows not only because it’s free but because she doesn’t use a blade, which would have been easier but more short-lived as the hairs removed would immediately grow back, and thicker, at that. Instead she wields fine-tipped tweezers to remove unwanted hair and a pair of small scissors to trim the ones that need to remain but are too long for aesthetic purposes. It’s a more painful process, though, and if you’re not used to it, you may even find yourself in tears. It does not end there, though. She goes on to shade her masterpiece with brow powder for a polished look.

Usually I stop at that, but today, after I decided I wanted to buy some Red Earth concealer that was on sale at 40% off (thank Goodness I did not buy the Maybelline one yesterday, this one is certainly a better bargain), she showed me how to use the product which led to a full-blown makeover with powder, blush on, eye shadow, mascara and lip gloss. See… this is the reason why I like shopping for makeup at Sasa rather than Watsons or Guardian. Not only do you get good tips on which makeup looks good on you (I would never have known which concealer shade was the right one for me) and how to use it, you can also get to try many other products with professional application. What’s more, the shop employees are friendly and helpful and don’t begrudge you samples unlike certain salespeople in Mac who frown at you when you try their products. Yeah I know it’s expensive, but do they really think I’d want to blow off big bucks on a shade of lipstick that ends up not being right for me? Geez.

Interesting tip from Sue: for those who want to grow out their eyebrow hairs quickly, apply brandy on the affected area. This is perfect for those who are no good at shaping their brows and accidentally take off too much… people like me, for example. I wonder if this will also work for hair on the head, though? Not for me, my hair is thick enough as it is, thank you, but for… you know who you are! 😉
