For last Valentine’s Day’s exchange gift, Cate and I
received entrance tickets to The Arena club in Clarke Quay for February 28. We thought it was just an ordinary night club, but when I finally got around to finding out where it was, I discovered that this club housed the first permanent illusion show in Singapore which features Singapore’s Magic Duo: JC Sum (billed as Singapore ’s most famous magician) and “Magic Babe” Ning (billed as the sexiest woman in magic). I love magic shows, so I was very excited to go there with Cate after we watched He’s Just Not That Into You in the cinema with Gelle and Cheryl. We found some seats on a couch, and though part of the stage was shrouded from our view, we could still see it via the live video feed on the television sets set on strategic spots in the club. Though they were doing tricks that we had already seen before, they made their performance somehow different from the rest with music and lighting effects and acting and seducing. Magic Babe deserves her billing; she is incredibly sexy, and her tight-fitting leather outfit only served to enhance her teeny waist and ample bosom. Towards the end, they showed video footage of the breathtaking stunt that Magic Babe did last July 2008. She was shackled and blindfolded inside an impalement cage, and she had to free herself with the use of a paperclip in the span of 90 seconds before stainless steel spikes would crash down on her.
