Last month my friend Gay emailed me to ask if Rodel was the only guy College classmate that we had who was in Singapore because an officemate of hers had said that her bestfriend’s boyfriend knew Gay for that reason.
“What?!?” I replied. “Are you telling me that Rodel already has a girlfriend that I don’t even know about?!? Let me confirm that.”
Immediately I took my cellphone and typed out, “Dengs, do you have a girlfriend??”
After awhile, Rodel replied, “Why? Haha.” Right then I knew that he did, because it was so easy to reply “No” if that had been the case.
“What?!? Who is she?!?! Why didn’t you tell us?!?” was my reply.
“Monet is my girlfriend now. So happy! Hehe.” he texted back. When I read her name, I wasn’t even that shocked, just annoyed at myself for not guessing it right off the bat. I had sensed that they had something eversince I knew them.
“I’m so happy for you Dengs!!! What a great catch!!!” I told him, positively glowing to hear his news. Rodel and Monet are two of the nicest people I know, and they are perfect for each other. I am so glad they’re a couple now. Who says you can’t find love in Singapore?
I guess I was just a bit miffed that I had to hear the news from overseas. Then the stories came out. How Joey had caught Rodel kissing Monet on the cheek in Lau Pa Sat, how his eyes had widened considerably and how excited he sounded when he called Gelle to tell her about it. How their flatmate had caught them holding hands in Lucky Plaza and followed them for some distance to confirm what she saw, then confronted them later at home.
Why they had to keep their relationship a secret, I am not quite sure I understand. It had something to do with Rodel’s first time to have a girlfriend, I think. But now everyone knows, and everyone is happy for them. At Monet’s birthday party, we held an interview ala talkshow and grilled them on the details. We have the entire thing on video, but Rodel doesn’t want to upload it. Hmp.
Last night while dining in 7107, I realized that I had the perfect theme song for them – Christian Bautista’s Colour Everywhere. See, Rodel is color-blind.
Our favorite anecdote about that happened back in College. For our Finance final exams, Sir Fuego’s instructions stated “use black or blue ink ONLY.” Rodel used red ink, thinking that he was actually writing with “light black” ink. Sir Fuego thought he was provoking him and gave him a zero for the finals. Rodel then had to get a certification from the doctor that he is color blind.
I’ve always liked this song, but I like it even more now that I’ve found who it’s perfect for. ^__^
