After watching The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, we walked outside so that Yves and Betchie could steal some smokes before we had dinner. That’s when I spotted two sunflowers slotted through the holes on the concrete tiles on the ground. They looked so bright and cheerful that Arlyn and I just had to take a picture with them.
We probably should’ve left them behind in case they belonged to someone else, like someone who had placed them there for a treasure hunt for his girlfriend, for example, but Betchie and I made off with them, their cheery heads sticking out of our bags as we walked around for the rest of the night. I told the girls, “According to the movie we just saw, ‘nothing is a coincidence. Everything happens for a reason.’ I wonder if it’s applicable to us finding these sunflowers?” A few minutes after that, while we were waiting to cross the street when a cute guy talked to me, asking me for directions. Unfortunately the light turned green and I had to leave him behind. Is this the sign?!? Hahaha.
We had dinner at Mang Kiko’s in Orchard Road (yummy yummy lechon manok and liempo!) then headed to Velocity Mall in Novena where Arlyn and I bought red undies for Chinese New Year – it’s for good luck, you see. Then we had some pearl coolers before heading home.
When I got home, I got a call from Arlyn. She said a funny thing had happened when she and Betchie got off the train – they had run across a guy who was also carrying a sunflower! She wondered if he was the guy who owned our flowers and was looking for them. I just wondered if he was supposed to be Betchie’s soulmate, like that guy asking for directions was mine. Maybe that was what those sunflowers were supposed to be about.
Or maybe they were just meant to make our day.
