Betchie had extra tickets and invited me and Gay to join her and her other friends in watching Voyage de la Vie – “A circus theatre spectacular, the story is told through song and dance, combining with the energy, physicality and athleticism of circus arts, resulting in a contemporary cutting edge performance art form which fully engages the senses and keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.”
It’s easily the best live show I have ever seen. It’s like a circus and a musical merged into one.
There were feats of gymnastics and magical tricks such that made Gay murmur “Oh my God!” over and over beside me even as I held my breath. There were fight scenes and precise arrow shootings and dance numbers and comedy scenes and juggling as I had never seen them before and people flying about on mere swaths of cloth suspended from the ceiling.
And when the “boy” opened his mouth to sing, I was surprised at how good he was because I thought the show would only be a visual feast. I was quite touched when he sang a song to Lady Moon, who looked like Sarah Jessica Parker, imploring her to bring him “one perfect love that will last forever, please find a way to bring us together.” Lady Moon then stepped off a realistic looking moon and mounted a trapeze where she proceeded to wow us all by various feats of body contortion while hanging many meters away from a solid floor without a net or even a safety harness.
Their costumes and props were all so magnificently done as well, contributing to the spectacle. I can go on and on, but words are not enough to describe what a truly spectacular performance this show is… you have to go watch it to comprehend what I mean.
Towards the end of the show, the “boy” or the lead actor sang and stepped off the stage, walking towards the audience, and to my pleasant surprise, he handed me the rose that he was holding, and I felt everyone’s eyes on me.
“You’re part of the fantasy!” Sash yelled at me from a few seats away. Never have I felt happier to have gotten an excellent seat (fourth row, can you believe it?) in a show.
It’s not everyday that a lead actor gives you a rose |
It’s a definite must watch. In fact I wanna watch it again!
