I had a chance to check out Lynn Aesthetic Spa a few days ago and try out their Lynn Aesthetic Detox Facial.
The spa is located in Hougang, near Kovan MRT, so it was quite far from where I live, but it was worth the commute. I’ve noticed that there’s an advantage to going to spas that are not in popular locations, like central malls – they’re usually way cheaper and less crowded, so you get better value for your money.
Lynn Aesthetic is one such example. The place is lovely and cozy. It has a small welcoming entrance area with friendly staff who greet you with a pretty instagrammable cup of tea.
The staff have such good customer service, in fact, that they graciously crouched low, out of the way, so as not to ruin my picture of their shop, even though I didn’t ask them to go to all that trouble. Thanks, gals! I’m quite touched. 😄
My therapist was Kate. She asked me to fill up a form about my skin concerns, then led me upstairs via an impressive spiral staircase, where I saw that there was another lounge area.
She gave me a locker key and showed me where I could stash my belongings for safekeeping, then ushered me into a spacious room where I would get my facial.
She asked me to change out of my clothes and into a treatment gown, after which, I lay down on the bed to get started. The Lynn Aesthetic Detox Facial focuses on the “self repair ability” that humans naturally have. By accelerating the metabolism of the cell, you will be able to recover your best skin condition, which is great. One more great thing about it is that it’s customizable depending on your skin needs. She noted that my skin’s main problem was pigmentation, so she recommended going for the “snow white facial” which involves using collagen whitening serum.
The Lynn Aesthetic Detox Facial had the following steps:
1) Cleanse
2) Tone
3) Gommage peel
4) Steam – Skin Scrubbing (machine) – suction
5) Eyebrow Trimming
6) Collagen Whitening Serum*
7) Lip, Eye care
8) Oxygenating Night Cream, face, shoulder head massage
9) Co2 Cream Mask
10) Hand Massage
11) Foot Massage
12) Toning – cream – sunblock
*customized by skin – other options are Oxygenating Serum, Detox Gel, Hydrating Gel, or Slimlook Gel
Kate was fantastic. The facial was very thorough. My skin was cleansed – sebaceous filaments (or what most people think are white heads) were removed from my nose using an interesting machine, with minimal pain involved. Some stubborn ones remained which had to be removed manually, though, but it wasn’t as painful as is usually the case.
The gommage peel got rid of my dead skin cells but was gentle enough that it did not feel harsh – my skin didn’t feel tight and painful at all.
My eyebrows, eyes and lips were not forgotten either, and I got a delicious manual massage not just on my face, but on my hands, feet, and shoulders too.
On top of all that, the bed vibrated too. It was so relaxing that at some point I fell asleep, even though I was trying not to.
After everything was done, I changed back into my clothes and was served with another cup of tea and a small plate of fruits.
I was really impressed with the results. My skin felt very soft and supple, and it looked really bright.
Below are before and after pictures. The before pic was taken about a week before my session.
After other facials I’ve tried, my face usually looks blotchy after being poked harshly, but not after this one. In fact my face was so radiant, that I couldn’t bear to use any face makeup to cover up that beauty. So I went on a movie date a few hours after this with just lipstick on – and looked fine. In fact for the past few days since this facial, I have been using only lipstick and translucent powder to work. I felt absolutely no inclination to use BB cream or foundation.
I knew I wasn’t imagining things that my skin looked good when one morning, my flatmate commented, “Your skin is so glowy! I’m in my early twenties but you have better skin than me! I should have your skin!” She’s more than a decade younger than me, by the way.
Full disclosure – I also do use other beauty products, but I honestly think that this facial has upped my skin game. My pigmentation hasn’t completely disappeared, but that’s probably not something that is expected to happen in one session. My only issue is that this spa is far away from where I live, but aside from that, I really can’t think of any cons. Thank you, Lynn Aesthetic!
