On our third day in Taiwan, we booked a half day tour that started out with Nanya rock formations and ended up at Jiufen old street, the most prosperous shopping district in Taiwan. The place was densely packed with shops and shoppers alike.
Normally I hate crowds but there was so much interesting stuff to see and buy and the narrow alleys that led up and down was a unique sight that I didn’t mind so much.
There were lots of shops but this cracked us up the most because the saleslady wore a costume to match the shop poster. So cute. 😊
We tried a lot of food, including these snails, or as they say in French, escargot.
They didn’t taste as disgusting as they look but they definitely weren’t delicious either. They were a bit slimey actually. 😑
Our tour guide then pointed out a restaurant selling a yam dish, which he said was very famous in Taiwan. So we went in. You could get the dish in either hot or cold variant, so we tried both. None of the two impressed us. But oh well, at least we tried, right?
After going around the place, we were driven back to our hotel where we met up with Chi (who couldn’t come as she had to take care of her sick hubby). We were so happy that the sisterhood of the travelling pink leather jackets were complete!! So we took a ton of pictures together. 😜
I did say a ton, right? 😜
We walked towards the original Din Tai Fung and had dinner there even though we had already eaten at another Din Tai Fung branch on day 1. Their food is just that good! Especially the xiao long bao (dumplings). Yum!!!
After a very sumptuous dinner, we walked back to our hotel and visited the sick Punch in their room. Then we were finally able to take our only complete group photo of this trip.

Streets like that are so fun! There are always so many interesting shops. I love the lady who dressed like her poster 🙂 You're too brave for trying snails, I couldn't have done it.

Dee, I love your photos (especially of that woman wearing a matching costume as her logo–totally genius :)! And half the fun of visiting a new place is trying new food, even if it doesn't live up to my expectations 🙂

Thanks Amy! Yes, trying food, even if it's scary and might turn out disappointing, is part of the fun of traveling. 🙂

Haha glad I'm not the only one who loves her. There are some food I would never be brave enough to try, though!

Glad I made you happy, sponsor! Haha what a funny way of putting it, LOL!

Yes Taiwan does have plenty of normal food, don't worry! Din Tai Fung has really normal and delicious food, actually, and there are lots of normal street food too like breaded chicken, candied fruits, etc.
