Acoustikahan

Last Friday, one of P&G’s wellness circles, PMG (Performing Musicians Guild) held its first Acoustikahan: battle of the bands contest.

Four bands joined in, including our band composed of mostly AP people named Parokya ni Jobacs after our band “manager,” Joel Baculi. Joel is actually a band 2 boss who’s an expert base guitarist and vocalist for their band, XPG.

Our group was described as 7 “virgins” in the band industry, and we performed first. Our lineup– vocals: Robert, Rome, me; guitars: Raymond, Willah, Yen; violin: Karen; tambourine: Robert. Our first song was “Time After Time” led by Robert with Rome and me as backup. Our second song was “Mata” duet by Rome and me, with each of us having solo portions and Robert as backup in the chorus parts.

The only all-virgin group in the contest, we finished last, but I didn’t really care, so long as my voice didn’t crack despite the nervousness I felt while singing infront of a huge crowd. And everyone said we were good. James Band won, followed by 6 Non-blondes and BG’s (Blues & Greens – Ateneo and La Salle people).

There were also a lot of intermission numbers, such as a performance by the band that started it all, XPG, where the PMG president Mark and our manager Joel were members. Our friend Drew also danced with three others from the wellness circle Galaw (of which I am also a part of, by the way). And my favorite performance was by Jea Ocampo who has such a great voice that she can seriously sound like MYMP.

It was a wonderful night that did not end in Nobel Plaza (where the event was held). Afterwards, Thom, Rome, Caloy and I headed to Malate and danced the night away in Arcadia. Rockin’ night indeed!
