I was talking to a new friend about books, and she asked me if I had already read The Lovely Bones. I said no, and she proceeded to tell me about how that had been her gift to her mother for one Christmas, but that she had read the book before wrapping it on Christmas day.
It sounds like a wicked thing to do, but I doubt that she’s the only one who does such a thing. I used to do that too, and as a matter of fact, I remember back in High School, I bought a Sweet Valley University paperback as my gift for Flisha, whose name I had picked up for our exchange gift in class. I should’ve borrowed the book after she had read it, I know, but it was a thriller and I couldn’t wait to borrow it after Christmas break, so I read the book and even stayed up late the night before the class Christmas party just so I could finish it before wrapping it. When Flisha opened my gift, she actually offered to lend it to me, and I smiled and said, sure, after you! I never followed her up on it, though, so I wonder if she ever suspected the truth?
Karma was swift that Christmas morning, though, for when I opened my present from Jenilee, the one who had picked my name, I discovered that it was also a Sweet Valley book, Dear Sister from the Sweet Valley High series. I loved the book, yes… but I already had the exact same one at home. T.T
Yes, Fli, this is how I choose to tell you! ^__^
Flisha says
Hahahaha! I never knew!

Heids Sweet Valley was such a hit. I don’t remember what book ya you gave, but there were many times I got duplicates too.

And yes I do the reading thing too hehehe. But I don’t often give a book as a gift except to my younger sister, and even then only as akel random gift. I wonder why I never think of it for birthdays and Christmases?

I think I gave an SVU thriller edition, but I don’t remember the exact title ya.

Wow, you’re a generous sister gale, giving books as random gifts! I couldn’t even afford books for myself all that much back then! Always had to borrow from someone or the library.
