I am not supposed to be a fan of sushi or sashimi. I am not a fan of raw fish unless it’s in the form of kilawin (or ceviche, as it is known in South America), which does not really taste raw because the vinegar’s acidity “cooks” the fish. But last Tuesday when my former officemate Ivy invited me and Gelle to dinner with former and present P&G and HP folks, she already had a venue in mind, so I didn’t really have a choice but to show up in Sushi Tei in Ngee Ann City and gorge on raw fish. This was my first time to eat more than one sushi at a time (actually I think I ate 5 pieces, no wonder I was really full after my stomach had 20 minutes to tell my brain that it was already bursting). To my surprise, I found that I loved sushi! Still not sashimi, though. The only sashimi I ever liked was the first one I ever tasted from the lunch buffet at Waterfront Hotel in Cebu, back during my auditing days.
Anyway, Sushi Tei is a bit pricey. We each coughed up 20 bucks, but it was already for a huge spread, and eaten with fun new acquaintances, so I guess it was already a good price to pay.
half the group, and what a coincidence, I’m wearing a kimono-type blouse!
I thought that would be the end of my sushi episodes, but today, while I was walking through Citilink Mall, I chanced upon a sign advertising a sale outside Sakae Sushi. So I asked a waiter, who happened to be a Pinoy, to explain what that meant, and he said that all sushi dishes on blue plates, which normally sold for S$2.29, are now selling for only S$1. At that, I immediately asked to be seated. He brought me to a table near a rotating conveyor belt that held a lot of sushi dishes on different colored plates. I snatched three blue plates as they moved past me then put one back, remembering the last time and not wanting to overindulge myself again. In the end, I paid $2.35 for two plates of sushi and a glass of ice water. I am so happy, and so going back! ^__^
