Archie Picks Veronica

For seventy years, Archie has been torn between two best friends – rich brunette Veronica and blonde girl-next-door Betty. When word got out that he was finally planning to marry one of them, I wished it would be Betty. I have always liked Betty more than Ronnie for the same reason that I preferred Elizabeth over Jessica – that she is nice, smart, and cool in the sense that she can fix cars and get messed up without getting all screechy about it. In Filipino lingo, a “cowgirl.” Yet she can dress up and be all girly when occassion merits it.

Ronnie, on the other hand, is the spoiled bratty only child of a rich tycoon who loves to flirt and shop and act all vain and pretty.

Both girls love Archie and vice versa, but Betty much more so in that she goes to extreme lengths to get Archie’s attention and does not even mind when he takes her out only when Ronnie can’t go out with him. It is this part of Betty’s character that should have made it obvious to me who Archie will pick in the end – Veronica. Read the article that confirms that here.

It is the sad reality that boys don’t pick girls who make doormats of themselves, no matter how sweet and loving and obviously better choice they could have been. Boys like girls who are mysterious and exotic and hard-to-get and even slightly bitchy and cruel to them. In the words of a guy friend, men are hunters. So the girl who loves more will be cast aside, but I think this is what she needed in order to move on and eventually find the guy who is worthy of her. Take a look at her blog entry, though. I feel for her. It must suck to lose the guy you love to your own bestfriend.

Still, she’s not real. So I still feel sadder for Jamie Pugh who got taken off Britain’s Got Talent. =.(
