Warning: if you are highly susceptible to irresistible food cravings when exposed to reading or visual material about food, please stop reading right now. That means you, Zenie.
When RayC and AA were a week into their relationship, RayC sent AA an Awfully Chocolate cake. That’s the cake’s name, hence the capital letters. Awfully sweet of him, considering that he’s in the Philippines while AA is here in Singapore. On the day that AA got the cake and she mentioned it to me, I read a Reader’s Digest that happened to feature said cake. I was PMS-ing at that time, so when I read the article, I developed such a nasty craving for moist chocolate cake. AA was willing to share her cake, but as it was 9pm already and their house is around half an hour away from ours on foot, so we agreed to meet over the weekend instead. The craving refused to go away, though, so I left our flat and took a 15 minute walk to the the nearest mall, in my sleepwear (tank top and gym shorts), just so I could find me some dark chocolate cake. Oh sure I saw some chocolates in the store in our building and I saw some unyummy looking pretending-to-be-chocolate cakes in a small bakery nearby, but they just wouldn’t do – I was craving for dark chocolate cake, nothing else would suffice. This is the reason why I hate PMS and why sometimes I’m grateful that I don’t get it 12 times a year like most girls. Anyway, I eventually found a dark chocolate cake in Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and took a slice home. It didn’t taste good, though, but it still satisfied the craving just by being what it was.
Two days later, AA dropped by our place for lunch and brought her cake. It’s so moist and not too sweet so you won’t tire of it quickly. (I had two slices.) It lives up to its company’s mission as stated in their website:
So we started a cake shop selling only one cake – a simple dark chocolate cake between layers of dark chocolate fudge. Real cake one could bite into, rich in taste yet moist and light. Not just mouthfuls of mousse or cream. Not overly sweet but something you could eat and not feel disgusted with yourself right after. Something you would find yourself craving for regularly and never tire of.

This isn’t my first chocolate-cake-craving-in-the-middle of the night episode that I’ve had. Back in Makati, my flatmate Zenie and I were prone to such spells which would often end up with us taking a 15 minute walk to the 24-hour Starmart convenience store just to get ourselves some chocolate fudge cake from Coffee Plus. That they were free thanks to my company-sponsored starcard was only a bonus to the fact that it was one of the best tasting dark chocolate cakes in Makati.
My ultimate favorite chocolate cake of all time, though, would have to be Red Ribbon’s chocolate mousse. It’s like eating ice cream and cake in one bite. I miss it so.
It’s RayC and AA’s monthsary today, by the way, and guess who got another chocolate cake and shared it with her friends? Happy monthsary, you two! And thanks for the cake. It was really delicious! Till next month!

I suddenly want that dark chocolate cake too, Heidz.

I'm not a cake person but I must admit I'm addicted to anything made by Meiji – almonds, macadamia, yumyum… I had my Royce moment but I always came back to Meiji. And Lindt.

hahaha. you were warned in the first paragraph! you should not have read on!

i love japanese chocolates. they're not so sweet so that you can eat as many as you want. Meiji and Lindt are nice indeed.

Dee says
i thought ung buendia one lang ang closing, lahat pala ng starmarts? tsktsktsk. eh di wala nang cake. still, magagamit nyo parin naman ang starcards sa 7-11s na yun, so ok parin.
