I came across my High School prom pictures and can’t help but cringe. What the hell was I thinking??
Disaster #1: Junior Prom. In our school, juniors were supposed to dress in baby pink for the prom. My mom brought me to her seamstress where we pored over dress designs on magazines and catalogues. I can’t believe I actually chose this design and the bolt of cloth and horrendous flower decals on it. To complete the look, I let my unruly big hair hang loose and wore stockings and silver sandals. To complete the disaster, my hair caught on fire when it strayed across someone’s candle during the candle-lighting ceremony. My bestfriend’s quick action saved the rest of my hair.
Disaster #2: Senior Prom. We were low on funds, so instead of heading to the seamstress, my mom and I made a beeline for the ukay-ukay (second hand) shops to look for a ready-made dress. Seniors could wear any shade of blue, but I don’t know why I thought this particular shade of blue and this particular design of dress was a lovely choice. The shoes were practical ones that I could also wear for graduation. I look like a chaperone instead of a senior!
Those were rare chances to glam up and I wrecked them both. So when P&G threw a formal event last year, I saw this as a chance to redeem myself. I couldn’t find a nice dress within my budget so I just bought a corset and layered it over an old dress that I had worn to my cousin’s wedding with the straps rolled down. Professionally done hair and makeup, sparkly stillettos, and improvised bling bling completed the look. I wish I had worn this to the prom.

wow, you have a keen eye! i bought that corset in Landmark in Makati. it was less than 1000 pesos, made by Rico Salandanan. his clothes have their own section in there. go buy! i think it's cheap na. other corsets i saw were way more expensive.

heidz, evolution itong pictures mo. hahaha. i can't help but laugh at the pink dress. 🙂 the blue one is nice, just not the right pair of shoes.

the pink dress is a real nightmare. unfit to wear anywhere. the blue dress is ok but probably just inappropriate for my age and for the prom. people actually called me "Madam" to point that out.

hi heids,

just want to ask, is that corset the same one you wore over a polo in one of your pics in your Bed Talk post?

Just that, I've been wanting to buy one of those but didn't know what it's called.

Do you know where I could buy one of those that I could pair over my polo blouse? I mean here in makati. I saw that get up in a Victoria Secret Mag
