Memory is a very tricky thing. Especially my own.
See, people are usually very amazed at my excellent long term memory. I can recollect scenes from the past quite vividly or remember poems or song lyrics by heart. I can recite quotes from movies or TV shows or books verbatim. I also remember everyone’s birthdays.
In contrast, however, is my short term memory. It is so terrible that some friends call me Dory. I keep forgetting where I last left my things and I quickly forget numbers or names mere seconds after they were mentioned to me.
But while I’m really terrible with names, I’m usually good with faces. Like I won’t remember the names of actors on movies I’ve seen but the next time I see them on another movie, I would know that I had seen them before and I would usually be right about where I had seen them from.
And I think I’m a right brain but back in school I was good in both Math and English, two subjects that belong to two different sides of the brain, so I don’t really know for sure. I guess I think I’m a right brain because I enjoyed English more than I did Math, though I did also have fun solving Algebra problems. I actually loved the challenge of finding X. Nerd alert!
Two brain-related inventions that I have wished existed:
(1) a pill that can make you forget certain memories, certain persons, to be specific. This was when I was heartbroken. Then the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind pursued this idea and I realized that it’s not such a good idea after all.
(2) a chip where you can store your memories, accessible only to you, so that you can look through your past archives. Wouldn’t it be fun to look at your childhood memories and realize that you had already seen someone back when you were both still kids but just didn’t get introduced? Or if you get into an argument about how something happened before because you have different recollections, you can easily put an end to that by diving into your actual memories.
Harry Potter’s pensieve does this, I just suddenly realized.
I have no point, actually. Just rambling. I guess I better turn off my brain for the day. It’s back to work again tomorrow.
