My high school classmate and Chi’s bestfriend since childhood, Janice, came to Singapore for a vacation. She’s currently residing in Japan with her husband. Last week we had dinner with her at the usual place, Makansutra. The moment she sat down, fireworks shot off in the sky, and we joked that we had requested this just for her. The truth is that this was a practice session for the National Day presentation for August 9th.
After dinner (Janice likened the crispy baby squid to the sweet & spicy dilis from our hometown), we walked around Esplanade to look for a place where we could have dessert. We headed to Max Brenner but there was a long queue, and we really liked the shop next door because it looked very royal, but they were not accepting dine in visitors, so we just posed for a picture.
We eventually found Haagen Daz, but the waiter informed us that they were already closing and could only accept takeaway orders. I mournfully related this to the others in tagalog, and when the waiter heard me, he spoke to me in tagalog too and said we could be the last order for the day. How kind of him!! His name, Angelo, was a perfect fit for him. So we ordered fondue and sat down. It was my first time to try their fondue. It was very delicious! I loved the ice cream balls!
In retrospect though, we probably shouldn’t have fed Janice ice cream, since she had a cough so bad, she had a croaky voice. Still, she seemed to have enjoyed it and her stay here. 🙂
