Yesterday, I had a date with my fellow riddler Ngangi. It started when we met up at Tiong Bahru Plaza to ride a cab to one of her favorite haunts, an Italian restaurant called La Noce.
It was just supposed to be a five minute cab ride away… if the cab driver knew where it was. Unfortunately, ours didn’t, and he drove around aimlessly till I finally got my Google Maps app to work and showed him how exactly to get there.
Ngangi and I happily squealed when we realized that the blinking blue dot on the app which represented us moved in real time. So in no time at all, we got to Valley Point Shopping Centre. The driver discounted our fare, obviously relieved that we didn’t scream at him like other Singaporean passengers would have done.
When we walked in, we realized that we were the only customers in the place. The restaurant is so cozy, with nice music that makes you feel like you’re in Italy, not that I’ve ever been there. A perfect date place.
The waiters all knew Ngangi. She ordered faggotina, her favorite pasta that wasn’t on the menu. Then we also ordered a diavoli pizza. A basket of bread was served along with a dish of olive oil with balsamic vinegar, so we asked for parmesan cheese to sprinkle in it and promptly dove in. We asked for a second serving of bread. Hihi. So sorry, we both hadn’t eaten anything for the day yet and it was already 2pm!
When our orders arrived, we quickly dug into those too. It was my first time to try the faggotina, which is a cream-based pasta dish wrapped around chunks of cheese. The diavoli pizza, meanwhile, resembled my favorite pepperoni pizza except that in lieu of pepperoni, there was Italian spicy sausage. After 3 pieces of pasta and 2 slices of pizza, I groaned, “Oh no, I’m full already. Cannot be!!” But it was to be.
So we asked for the rest of the food to be wrapped up for takeaway. Seven hours later, we were still so full. Wow. No wonder it was expensive?
After that, we headed to Ngangi’s flat where I was staying for the night since Chi was back in Manila. We changed into pambahay clothes and read books – I know, old habits die hard.
We also fell asleep. Then woke up at 6pm to watch The Buzz. Then walked to 7-11 to buy a bottle of Coke and some chocolates. Then read some more before falling asleep again. In other words – it was a perfectly lazy Sunday.
The next morning we woke up really really late, which was okay because it was a holiday. We showered and met up with Gelle and Joey for lunch at the newly opened Sakura in Dhoby Gaut. They had some vouchers left from their wedding reception, so our meals were free. Yay!
There was a lot of sushi and sashimi, but for those who don’t like raw food, there are also tons of other stuff to choose from, like crispy salmon skin, garlic fried rice, broccoli, lobster potato salad – to name a few. There are also lots of lovely dessert choices – ice cream, chocolate tart, cakes, and mochi! It was a happy lunch indeed.
But this is the last time I’m pigging out because starting tomorrow, I am back on a diet! And back to work as well. It’s another first day in another company. I hope all goes well.
