Last Friday, our bosses announced that September 6 was a holiday in one of the countries we were supporting, so we could take a leave on said day if we want. I filed for it straightaway.
Now that I had an extra day off, what to do? I was deliberating jetting off somewhere by myself, but it was while Cate and I were on our way home after an exhilarating chat with Maya and Gay on Saturday night that I decided that I wanted to book a hotel room for us. She suggested contacting our friend Anne, who could offer company discounts. Luckily there was a room available despite the late notice. Yay for Anne! I invited her too but she couldn’t make it.
So the next day, we checked into the hotel. It was the first time we had ever been there. It was pretty nice. Take a look at some of the pictures we took.

We had brought chips and drinks which we had bought from Fairprice; we also ordered pizza and chicken wings from Canadian Pizza. My flatmates had bought a cake for me, and when Maya and Gay arrived, they brought a cake too. Both cakes were really yummy.

Then Maya, Gay and I dipped into the pool and stayed there talking and shivering instead of swimming. Haha. Maya and I were amazed at the fact that the last time we had done this had been in Mandarin Oriental Hotel back in Makati (P&Gers had discounted rates to the gym and pool) and now we were in a completely different pool in a completely different hotel in a completely different country but together again and doing the same thing – talking in the pool. I wonder how many people have our same hobby. Not too many, I bet. LOL.
We stayed in the pool for hours, even when the sun had left the sky and only got out when Brian and Elma arrived. Elma had suddenly messaged me earlier that day asking how I was, since we hadn’t seen each other in a long, long time. I had then invited her and Brian over.
After greeting the two, I led everyone back upstairs. We ate the rest of the food and popped open the wine that Brian had brought to our noche buena last time. We hadn’t touched it until now. Haha. It tasted pretty good, though. I usually hate wine, but I liked this. The couple also gave me a gift – perfume.
Everyone just finished watching the movie playing on HBO (some movie about football players who became cheerleaders) then bid their goodbyes as they all had work the next day, leaving me and Gay to spend the night at the hotel room.
It felt so wonderful to watch cable TV and burrow into a soft bed with the aircon on. Then when I woke up the next day, I made myself a bubble bath – my favorite part of hotel stays. This is the best birthday gift I ever gave myself.
After checking out, I brought Gay to the Cathay Cineplex to watch her first movie in Singapore – Going the Distance. It was hilarious and touching. I may have shed a tear. Or two.
The main leads had chemistry – well they should, since they’re real life sweethearts. Gay and I loved it. She was able to relate, as all her previous relationships had been long distance.
After the movie, Gay needed to go home. I stayed to get my legs waxed then had a scoop of Ben and Jerry’s phish food ice cream afterwards. I couldn’t have spent my (pre) birthday any better – it was chock full of activities, food and people I love. I’m so blessed. 🙂
