Imagine stepping into da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” or Michelangelo’s “The Sistine Chapel Ceiling Fresco” or having Mona Lisa wave and greet you and answer all your questions? Now you can at the Alive Gallery! This is the place where fantasy becomes a reality.
The moment I saw a commercial for the Alive Gallery on TV, I wanted to go. Not because I’m a huge fan of art or museums, but because it’s the opposite – museums usually bore me, and I was hoping that an unconventional one would make me appreciate it.
As luck would have it, we decided to go on its last day in Singapore and I visited their Facebook page before we went so that I saw this:
Thus we got a 50% discount on our tickets. How fun is that?
Inside, we saw some replicas of famous paintings up on the walls with their histories, analyses and explanations. Exactly what I needed, since I know very little about them.
My favorite was The Coronation of Napoleon for its beauty and detail.
There was a 3D presentation of Greek god sculptures that came to life.
Michelangelo took a break from his painting job to discuss his famous Sistine chapel ceiling work of art.
The models for The Last Supper moved around as they conversed with Da Vinci.
Mona Lisa answered questions thrown at her by the audience and I found out that she was 24 years old when she was painted and that she had no eyebrows because during her time, the most beautiful women were the ones who had the most expansive foreheads, and removing one’s eyebrows helped to create this illusion.
Pictures were not allowed to be taken except in two spots where actual paintings like Van Gogh’s Cafe Terrace at Night were recreated in real life so that one could pose in it as if one were inside the painting, like so:
When we were done viewing everything, we went outside to pose for some pictures. Tripod helped us out.
Yes, Cate and I were wearing the same shirt, the one we got from yesterday’s event. Haha.
We decided to have early dinner at Just Acia. This used to be a favorite of Cate and mine when we were still new in Singapore but now I can’t even remember when was the last time I ate there.
It’s Ivy’s first time there, however.
We love it because they have free flow drinks and ice cream with their set meals. To our delight, we discovered that they have now added chocolate slushies to their drinks. Cate eschewed ice cream in favor of it. I usually order deep fried chicken but this time around I decided I wanted to try out the bulgogi bibimbap. It was delicious!
happy with her slushy |
I had bulgogi bibimbap, Ivy had fried chicken with ramen |
We were once again so full to bursting afterwards that Cate commented: “Maybe Ivy doesn’t want to hang out with us anymore because she’ll think she’ll gain weight in our company!” XD
