Free breakfast actually came with our hotel but we only had the chance to avail of it on the third day due to our tour schedules. I chose the chicken fried rice from the menu and it was very delicious!
We were fetched from the hotel for the last time and brought to the largest fresh water lake in South East Asia, The Tonle Sap where we boarded a boat and cruised along the lake to see the Chong Kneas Floating Village to see houses built on stilts and a small fish and crocodile farm.
We went to this place where they make sculptures, paintings, weavings and stuff. It’s a school, and they apparently take in deaf-mutes. A noble endeavor, I must say.
After that we were brought to a market where we spent a couple hours or so shopping for souvenirs.
Then they fetched us for lunch. We went to this cozily decorated restaurant and Jon asked us if we liked fried fish, I said yes. It wasn’t on the menu but he ordered it for us and it was the best meal I had in this entire trip. The entire fish was deep fried and it was so crispy and it went really well with the green mango salad. My mouth is watering even as I think of it now.
Then we went to see one last temple. They wanted to show us more but we had had more than enough temples to last us a lifetime and a half.
Then we asked them to bring us back to our hotel, gave them tips and said goodbye. We then asked the hotel receptionist if they knew the telephone number to the Touich restaurant bar which Chi had highly recommended to us. That was where she and Punch had his birthday dinner date the previous night.
They did not know, but they quickly looked for a phone book and switched on a fan to make us comfortable as we waited. Such great customer service! I eventually found the number thanks to my iphone and gave it to them, and they quickly called the restaurant and made reservations for us.
Since the restaurant is kind of hard to find, they send out a french jeep to fetch their customers free of charge. They were already booked for the early evening slots so we had no choice but to go at 8pm.
At said time, we got a knock on our door and we were informed that our transportation was awaiting us. We climbed on board and the driver was very friendly. When we got to the restaurant, we were surprised to see that it was a small one, but very cozy and nicely decorated, the perfect set up for a romantic date.
We wanted to order their fried fish but they had ran out of it, so we settled for the snakefish in sauce instead. We also had some steak and tiger prawns. They all turned out to be delicious. We stayed for a while, chatting about all sorts of things.
Then we were brought home by the driver and his brother. The latter turned out to be so hyper, he actually sang Michael Jackson songs for us. It was certainly a fun ride home.
We woke up early the next morning to check out of the hotel. The airport transfer was no longer on the house, so we asked the receptionist to get us a tuktuk.
We were way too early at the airport and not just that, we didn’t know that we still had to pay for a $25 airport tax, so we did not have enough cash anymore. Luckily they accepted Visa.
Punch and Chi arrived soon after us and we chatted for a bit at the airport lounge before we boarded our plane.
That was a very enjoyable vacation indeed; one of the best ones I ever had. I am so glad I went. 🙂
