Ngangi headed back to the Philippines for good.
Lucky for me, I got to be on leave on her last day in Singapore. It was a holiday for everyone else as well, so Chi and Gelle were also free so that we could have a brunch with her.
We were supposed to go to Simply Pancakes but they opened late, so we ended up at McDonalds which also has pancakes.
I had that and had a hard time explaining to the cashier that I wanted my iced milo with ice, thank you very much.
We had so much fun chatting for a couple of hours.
Unfortunately the family next to us didn’t appreciate that and the father rudely made his feelings known by saying, “f**king noisy!”
What followed was a scary staring and retorts contest. I’m sorry to say that I didn’t contribute; I am such a wuss.
In the end, though, our team won and they retreated to the other end of the room, their tails tucked between their legs.
We left at noon as Ngangi had a despedida party to go to.
I decided to go shopping in Expo with Chi. There was an MPH booksale and we ended up buying loads of books for ourselves and as Christmas presents.
The line was so long though, so that by the time we were done paying, our feet hurt. We laughed because just before that, we had congratulated each other on wearing high heels but now we wished had worn flats. Chi also wished she had brought her trolley.
We sat down – on the floor – to rest for a bit, before hitting the sale next door – Robinson’s.
We decided to leave our heavy shopping bags on the floor and come back for them later. Hey this is Singapore, we know they’ll still be there when we get back. And sure enough, we were right, though there was a brief moment when we thought not but it turned out we had been looking at the wrong spot. Haha
The first things we bought once we got inside were flats. There is no way we can shop comfortably in high heels! The queue in Robinson’s was waaay longer than MPH’s. We were in line for an hour, can you believe it?
“Why do we do this to ourselves?” Chi asked me.
“Because we’re girls?” I shrugged in response.
Well at least Chi has her Christmas shopping done while me – well I have some of it done and… I have a new Paul & Joe compact? Haha. We finished shopping at 5pm and had our very late lunch at Burger King.
Chi asked me if I wanted to join her in bringing Ngangi to the airport and I agreed.
So we rode a cab to their new home and watched Ngangi do some last minute packing. Here she is with her suitcase and she is wearing my farewell gift for her – a Forever 21 locket. Love for lockets are one of the bazillion things that she and I have in common.
We used an iphone app to get a cab to fetch us at home and bring us to the airport. We were too early so the counter for the Manila flights were not open yet, so we had dinner at McDonalds again, or rather, Ngangi did, as Chi and I were still full from our “lunch.”
The inevitable had to happen, though, and Ngangi finally checked in and had to go. =(
I’m happy for her, though, because I know this is her dream. Bon voyage, and keep in touch! =)
