One of my batchmates, Farrah, tendered her resignation, her last day being last Thursday. I got her a pasta holder because she mentioned that she wanted one (she loves to cook), and she got me and our friends a giant Smarties tube with a Snow White topper. Snow White because it’s the symbol of what we call ourselves – Snow White’s Dwarfs.
Another Snow White themed item adorns my workstation. The Snow White box was my Christmas gift for everyone. |
I also put together a farewell video for her. Apparently a lot of people have seen this and love it; a Singaporean colleague even told me: “We don’t actually understand most of what you’re saying but you’re very funny,” even as she and her friend were dissolved in laughter. But even as my fellow dwarfs laughed at the beginning, they ended up in tears at the ending.
Then on her last day, we got together for dinner at Swensen’s in Tampines. Almost everybody was there and we had a lot of laughs, as always. I loved the baked spaghetti that I swiped from Rey. I wasn’t too crazy about my own order, a steak sandwich. The sourdough bread was really delicious, though. We all topped up S$5 to have soup, drinks and ice cream added to our meals, but it took forever for them to serve the ice cream. In the end, Farrah, Nikki and Rey took up the tab as a treat for us (Nikki just recently celebrated her birthday and Rey got promoted).
