Kes flew to SG to be with me and Gelle on her birthday. She stayed for more than just one day though. We fetched her at the airport and had dinner at a hawker stall near my place before we went home. She ordered hokkien mee, her favorite Singaporean food, the first of three hokkien mees that she would eat during her six-day stay. Once we got to my place, we put together an itinerary for her, writing the details down on my whiteboard. But first we had to erase the “Welcome Kes!” sign that I had written on it.
The next day we had lunch at my place then attended a Zumba class at Gelle’s gym. It was Kes and my first time to attend such a class, and we had a lot of fun. Afterwards, we got hungry and walked to Lau Pa Sat for an early dinner. Then we headed to Orchard to supposedly buy some makeup and shoes but we made the mistake of going to Sephora first where we got stuck for three hours. Can you believe that? We hardly could! Afterwards, we were like, “OMG how could we have spent three hours in there?!?” But we spent a lot of time trying out so many brands of sunscreen before determining that Laneige was the least greasy (it was like wearing nothing, and it had a nice light citrusy scent), then we checked out a mini hair iron and thought it was too expensive at S$100, then moved on to Makeup Forever eyebrow kits, then Mac lipsticks (where Kes chose some peach ones because they’re supposedly the latest in colors), then Jack Black lip balm (which leaves a refreshing minty feel on the lips), and when we finally headed to the cashier, our purchased entitled us to get a free S$40 voucher. So naturally we had to go around again and find more products to buy with said voucher, and well for a moment there it felt like we were Percy Jackson when he got stuck in that lotus hotel. After buying brushes and eye makeup and Tweezerman tweezers (the best tweezers in the world, apparently) with our voucher, we finally managed to leave. Then Gelle had to leave because she had an appointment with their new landlord. So that left me and Kes to go shoe shopping. We ended up buying a pair of sandals each at Charles and Keith.
On day two, Kes and I headed to Pasir Ris Park to rent bikes and rode around the connecting parks. We enjoyed going “wooooo!!!!!!!” whenever we went downhill, though there was a moment when my bike wobbled skittishly and I thought I would fall over from the speed, but I didn’t. Just when I thought I was safe, though, my bike fell over on top of me when it was just standing upright, and I ended up on the grass. Lame.

Gelle showed up later and we returned our bikes and once again went shopping. This time we found ourselves in Watsons where we had a hard time choosing which twenty dollars’ worth of hair products to buy so we could get a mini hair iron at a discounted price of ten bucks, a much better price than the one in Sephora.
The next day Kes and I tried to do the master cleanse and just stayed home the entire day. We left the house at night so that we could watch One Day in Nex cinema. By then we had gotten so hungry that we decided to drop the cleanse and bought hotdogs and popcorn and sodas at the cinema counter. While waiting for Gelle, we decided to sit on the floor and eat our food there. Yeah I know, OMG again! But it was pretty funny and we kind of didn’t have a choice because there were no seats. Then our cinema was finally open so we went in and we cried a lot during the movie.

Then we went home and Gelle slept over at my place too. We gave Kes our birthday gift – a pair of red sandals, because she wanted to buy one. It was funny because earlier in the day, Gelle had asked me for gift suggestions and I typed “red shoes!!!” in the chatroom that included Kes. Oops. Luckily she didn’t notice anything weird about that. Gelle bought the shoes in Charles and Keith.

On Keso’s birthday, we just stayed home the entire day again, then got jazzed up for a fun night out at Chijmes. We had dinner at Carnivore, a buffet place where the cooks show up at your table with heaps of freshly cooked meat on a stick and they ask you if you want some or not. There’s also a salad bar. We’re not really such huge eaters, though, so that place isn’t really for us.

After dinner, we headed to the nearby Insomnia bar where it was a ladies night, which meant we could have as many drinks as we wanted for only S$20. There was a live band inside, and we listened to them as we sat on some stools that we had managed to find. Of course we didn’t spend the entire night sitting, even though our high heels hurt our feet, because where’s the fun in that? We danced and sang along with the band and yelled and it was incredibly fun and liberating.
We left after midnight, and on our way out, we ran into an Argentinian flight stewardess who asked us to stay with her and said that Kes was f***ing beautiful and hot. Well that was certainly an interesting end to Keso’s birthday!

The next day, I brought Kes to the airport where we had one last meal together at Aston’s before she boarded her plane. I’m really glad Kes came to visit. I’ve missed her so.
