It’s another star-studded montage movie surrounding a specific holiday, following in the footsteps of Love Actually and Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking for romantic chills (is that even the right term?), you won’t find it here. I mean there were romantic stories but the actors didn’t have any chemistry. Or maybe that’s just my opinion. But if you’re looking for laughter and heart and maybe a few tears, this is a good holiday film.
My favorite part was when the famous Times Square ball got stuck and while it was being fixed, the vice president of the Times Square Alliance got interviewed and she gave this touching speech that made me tear up.
It’s suspended there to remind us before we pop the champagne and celebrate the new year, to stop and reflect on the year that has gone by. To remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken. The times we opened ourselves up to great adventures or closed ourselves down for fear of getting hurt. Because that is what new years is all about – getting another chance. A chance to forgive, to do better, to do more, to give more, to love more. And stop worrying about what if and start embracing what would be. So when that ball drops at midnight – and it will drop – let’s remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other. And not just tonight but all year long.
When she said that, I swear my year flashed before my eyes.
There were also a couple of scenes involving Halle Berry that turned on the waterworks again.
So in a nutshell… it’s no Love Actually, but worth a watch. And bring tissues. Seriously.
