I went back to TFS Bistrot, this time with Gelle, for her belated birthday dinner.
We wanted to have cheese fondue but it turns out that it’s off-season for that, so we ended up ordering food that I had already tried last time – escargot, duck leg confit with foie gras, giant profiteroles and rose wine. I didn’t mind, though, because I really love these dishes.
I just can’t get over how flaky the duck’s skin is and how the meat is so tender that it’s just falling off the bone. The foie gras is a delight, too, with the outer skin seared to perfection but the inside so soft and fluffy.
And because I had fewer main courses this time, I could appreciate the dessert more.
The chocolate was so decadent that I couldn’t help but gasp, “Yum!!” And the best thing is how the price is cheap for french cuisine.
My birthday gift for Gelle was also French-themed: the famous Julia Child’s cookbook, the one that inspired the blogger Julie which in turn inspired the movie Julie and Julia.
I also got her a small reading light because she previously mentioned that she wanted one. I have the same one in purple. Teehee.
We enjoyed dinner and conversation as we mulled over how things have changed so much since our Makati days, when our favorite dinner place was KFC.
“Who would’ve thought that we’d ever be eating foie gras?” I pointed out.
We’re getting older, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
