Elle magazine announced that they were holding their annual horoscope party and free invites were up for grabs, so I quickly joined and promptly received an email confirming that I had won a pair of invites. I asked Cate to join me since she and I are both into these things.
The venue was at 15 Minutes Cafe at Lasalle College of the Arts. Cate and I were amused because there’s also a school named La Salle in the Philippines. It was our first time to go there, and we loved the building’s unconventional architecture.
We asked the reception guy to point us to the cafe, and when we walked inside, we also fell in love with the look of the place. It looked like an art gallery, with sketches hanging on the walls, high ceilings and a loft. Unlike an art gallery, though, this had a bar as well, and we were pleased to note that we could have unlimited soda.
But I’m getting way ahead of myself. Let’s go back to the entrance. There was a welcome poster by the door which told us we were at the right event. We queued up to flash our IC’s and register our details.
They also asked us to choose one of four available horoscope readings. Cate and I both chose angel cards. This was actually my first time to hear about these cards, so I was curious.
After writing down our details, getting our number cards, and dropping our raffle draw cards into a glass case, we headed inside, got some drinks, then walked up to the loft and sat on some bar stools so we could look down over the first floor. After a while, a deejay went to the front and hosted a program.
The first part of the program had a Feng Shui master telling us our chinese year horoscopes for the year. Cate and I were both born on the year of the dog, and we noted that we could get into an accident from falling – hey, didn’t that happen to me already? Looks like Feng Shui master is off to a good (?) start.
That must mean that we had to take heed on his advice about not starting a business, not getting involved in office politics, and to avoid being picky so our true love will come. Also, to not forget to wear white, green and blue for good luck. We noticed that all the signs would be quite unlucky this year except for the pig, who will have a 180-degree turn this year.
After that there was a game where 6 contestants raced to complete puzzles of Lenovo computer pictures. The fastest one to do so won a Lenovo computer. Wow!
The host then explained that our names would be called if it was already our turn for our card readings, and in the meantime we could enjoy free dinner.
There was so much food – truffle infused mushroom tart, chicken drumlets, roast beef in red wine sauce, breaded prawn with wasabi mayo, pesto tomato penne, baked salmon in orange hollandaise, spicy tomato chicken, 3 kinds of desserts including oreo cheesecake, and a zesty lemon grass palate cleanser. Everything was delicious but my absolute favorite was the spicy tomato chicken which also came with a flavorful rice.
While we were eating, they started pulling out the names of winner of their lucky draw. The prizes were Switcheasy iphone cases and Benefit makeup. I heard my name being called just as I was spooning some food into my mouth.
I quickly slid off my stool and Cate asked for my phone so she could take a picture of me receiving my prize, a Switcheasy white iphone case from their Avante-garde line.
There was a long queue for the card reading, so we had to wait for some time before it was our turn, so we collected our free goodie bag and examined its contents on a couch while waiting.
There were some beauty product samples and a Lenovo notepad, and Cate noted that this was better than the usual goodie bags we get from other events which usually just have a bunch of discount coupons.
When it was finally my turn, the reader explained that angel cards involve asking the angels for guidance to my questions, but they can only provide answers within a 6-month time frame. How limited, huh?
So she asked me to ask my question and I asked about my love life and she asked me to pull five cards.
Her reading? That I still had some issues from the past and needed to get help (like talk to a psychiatrist or something) so that I could let them go and improve my aura so that I can attract love into my life because right now I am incapable of doing that.
It was a fun event overall. I would definitely go back to that cafe; such a charming place with such delicious food. Thanks to Elle magazine for that new discovery, and of course, for the food and prizes and everything. 🙂
