So it’s that time of year again that people either look forward to or dread: Valentine’s Day.
One of my single friends said: “Valentines day pala ngayon I thought regular payday lang?! Haha! Sinong bitter?!”
We singles kinda have it tough on this day because we don’t want to seem bitter yet we don’t want to seem desperate either, and the perfect visual of that would be like wearing black or red. So which end of the color spectrum should I go for? I decided to go for both and hope they cancel each other out.
Actually, I was just looking for an excuse to wear my new red shoes. I’ve been looking for red patent leather pumps for months now, but I never found adorable yet affordable (50 bucks is my limit) ones until last week in Mitju. It was love at first sight. I just had to have it even though I had just bought a pair of black pumps less than an hour ago.
Anyway, I got my flatmates a Valentines gift – butter cookies in a tin with a Valentines design.
Cate reciprocated with a crocheted flower.
Now this brings back memories. Her mom has been making these since we were in college. In fact I got a dozen purple ones as a gift from my classmates on my eighteenth birthday.
I also brought chocolates for my office friends. I gave them the chocolates inside this Lindor heart-shaped tin then emptied a packet of Cadbury’s black forest chocettes into it. We ate all that as well, though, so now I’m just left with the tin, which I will use to store my earrings or something.
I brought a guest to lunch – Ted d’ bear. I actually have no idea who owns this bear, he’s just been sitting on the empty workstation beside me eversince I moved there, so I borrowed him since he seems so suited for the occasion.
Some strange things happened this afternoon, but they’re on the TMI side so I’ll skip over them and jump right to my “Valentine’s date” with Dred and Jems, which was composed of dinner at Popeye’s followed by a movie.
We wanted to watch The Vow but Singapore cinemas are not showing it till April 12, can you bloody believe it?
So I chose Chronicle instead. Bad choice. First, it wasn’t what I expected, I thought it would be an a superhero action movie but it was more like documentary-style, though that was kind of a cool concept. Though it had a good story, it left us with heavy hearts in the end. Not a good note to end Valentines with.
So I decided to try to reverse that by watching the latest HIMYM episode when I got home. But it turned out to be more sad than funny, and my heart was heavier than ever. Another bad move.
On that note, I’ll end this entry with something happy, then – this card I made using a nice app called Red Stamp. I actually made that heart myself, using post-it flags. Hope your Valentines day was happy!
