Yves is back in Singapore after her year-long stint in Japan. She arrived last Feb 6, a Monday, and Arlyn, Betchie, Maribeth and I met her at her Citadines serviced apartment where she would be staying for a month.
I asked her what she wanted to eat, and she said liempo and hokkien mee, so I bought the latter from the hawker stall near my place while Arlyn and I bought the liempo from Mang Kiko’s Lechon in Orchard. We had that for dinner along with some rice-stuffed squid that Yves brought from Japan.
Then Yves brought out out lots of treats and we got confused as to which to eat first. They were all so delicious, especially the mochi, which is the best damn mochi I have ever tasted. There was also Royce chocolate-coated potato chips, chocolates, fries, Hokkaido cheesecake, ramen-flavored chips, and seaweed.
Aside from that, Yves also gave us cute ramen tokens. Ramen, you see, is the sign of our friendship, because ramen was one of our first favorite food trips.
Arlyn and I went back that Thursday to stay overnight. We just ate more Japanese goodies and talked and did some tarot card readings, which was the hilarious highlight of the night.
I say hilarious because we exaggerated our readings to make them more exciting, so we ended up laughing while freaking out about someone getting into drugs and somebody else turning lesbian.
The next morning Arlyn had to go to work, but Yves and I both had the day off as vacation leave, so we just lounged about her place the entire day, stuffing our face and talking. Yves admitted that after a year of having no one to talk to in Japan, this was a refreshing change. I’m glad she’s back in Singapore where she has plenty of friends.
She invited these friends to a party at her place last night. She had a catering of beef broccoli, afritada, pancit, and fried chicken. There was also Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, Japanese chocolates, beer and wine. The guests brought cassava cake and drinks. I was so full afterwards.
After a while, we decided to do tarot readings again. You’ll be amazed at what a fun pastime this is. I really should bring it to every gathering I go to. 😀
We went home past midnight with “tapaw” (takeaway) food. That was fun. Till next!
