Arrrgh why must I be so “blur like sotong” as Singaporeans put it???
Let me explain.
Today Dred and I realized that we were both stressed from work and decided that an unwinding session (and not the equity swaps kind, which is OMG related to work again why must I always think about work?) was in order. Dred suggested watching Johnny Depp’s Dark Shadows, so we split the search for the timeslot that would best fit our schedule, along with Maya’s and Nantoy’s. I took Cathay, she took Golden Village. “There’s one at 10:20 in Tampines,” she said. By then it was 9:30 and Maya still had one fund to do. “There’s a 10:55 in Downtown East!” I exclaimed. “Let’s take that, then!” everyone agreed. So I booked four tickets and we went back to our workstations.
When Maya and Nantoy were done, we took a cab to Downtown East, and since there was still a little bit of time left, we had a quick dinner at Burger King before heading up. After collecting the tickets, we fell in line to get into the cinema. I handed the tickets to the boy and he looked at them in utter bewilderment, saying, “But these tickets are for tomorrow.”
Sure enough, when I looked at the tickets, they said 10:55… but on the morning of the next day. I wanted to shrivel up in humiliation. We thought of exchanging the tickets for the next show but that was at 2am. My friends, bless their golden hearts, assured me that my stupidity was forgiven and they would gladly watch the movie tomorrow. Don’t you just love them?
As the title suggests, though, this wasn’t the first time this happened. Some time ago I also booked tickets for a movie and everyone was in a mad rush to get to the cinema on time and a couple in our party had even gone to the wrong cinema by mistake and when they finally arrived, right in the nick of time, we rushed in line, only to be told by the cinema boy that, well you know, more or less the same thing as what I mentioned above.
“Maybe next time Dee books movie tickets, someone should audit it,” Nantoy suggested, half-jokingly. Sounds like a good plan to me.
