Elma celebrated her 30th birthday with a dinner before her birthday itself. She and Brian discovered this wonderful restaurant called Our Korner Bistro & Bar at Erskine street and invited us there. It was a first time for everyone there, and it was love at first sight. We loved the cozy intimate setting with the dim lighting and lovely furnishings. We were the only customers that night so it was like we had reserved the place to ourselves.

Formaggi e Parma. Mozzarella, goat cheese, gruyere, parmesan, portobello, arugula, and parma ham on thin crust. |
Spicy chicken nachos covered with melted cheeses, guacamole, sour cream, japaleños, tomato salsa and chicken bolognese sauce. |
Chili crab sliders. Crab meat with diced water chestnuts in mini burger buns accompanied by signature Singapore chili crab sauce. |
BBW pork ribs with classic BBQ sauce served with chinese sausage risotto and mixed greens |
Beef ragout. Braised chuck beef in red wine veal jus served with sauteed vegetables and choice of bread, mashed potatoes or garlic rice |
We had Elma’s birthday cake for dessert. The waiters were nice enough to actually give us plates for that and everything. Then since Our Korner was actually inside a hotel, the Scarlet Boutique Hotel, we decided to head downstairs to the beautiful lobby and have a pictorial.
Then we decided to spend the rest of the night dancing in Cuba Libre, a bar in Clarke Quay. There was no entrance fee but we needed to buy our first drink in order to get in, so most of us chose to get the giant mojito in a jar.

This is so unfair. Why is Tyne’s mojito in a glass and mine in a jar? |
There was a live band that played latin music. It was a pretty crowded dance floor, but we did our best, and the band actually noticed us such that at past midnight when they came back after their break, they asked what happened, why weren’t we dancing anymore? Then they asked if we wanted them to sing a song for us and I suggested “Happy birthday.” So they asked who the birthday girl was and asked her to go onstage, where they sang for her and made her dance. Luckily, Elma is an excellent dancer.

We went home in a taxi van. It was quite nice. The entire night was, though. Really really fun, actually.
