Gelle invited me and Grace for dinner last Sep 22, so we met at Lau Pa Sat and made the rounds of all the Pinoy food stalls which were all closed, for some reason. Luckily, Tapa King was open, so we still got to enjoy Filipino food.
After finishing off our food and catching up, Gelle confessed that she really badly wanted to listen to the Maroon 5 concert at the F1 event. She had actually bought tickets for the F1 Sunday show when it was originally announced that they would perform on Sunday, but they got bumped to Saturday instead so now she couldn’t see them.
She had this crazy idea that maybe we could hang outside the walls nearest the Padang stage and at least be able to listen to them, so off we went to figure out just exactly where those walls would be.
We couldn’t figure out where the walls where, but we did find the gates after asking a lot of people. By that point, we had decided that we were willing to pay for tickets if we could find any, and just as we were lamenting the empty ticket booth, a guy approached us and asked if we wanted tickets.
He offered it to us for 50 bucks each, but Gelle managed to haggle it down to 40. So there we were, in the throes of amazed happiness, when Joey (Gelle’s hubby) suddenly showed up, just in time! So in we went.
We managed to find ourselves on the outskirts of Padang Stage just seconds before 11pm, when the Maroon 5 concert would start. By then they had already closed off the gates, so we could not get into the concert area anymore.
There was, however, a spot where you could still see the concert through a fence. My friends managed to find some stools to stand on so we could see the stage better over the heads of the dense crowds, and we happily danced and sang along with Adam Levine, just enough so that we did not fall off our perch.
He was so far away that we could barely make out his face, actually, but luckily they had these giant screens that projected his face for us.
Right before he sang “She will be Loved,” he yelled, “this song is for the ladies, I love you!’ and we screamed “I love you too!” right back.
I’m actually not a fan of any bands nor am I a concert goer, so I surprised myself that night. I guess it just goes to show that spontaneity can lead to awesome things. 🙂
