Asian Kitchen Chicken + Coffee Bean Cake

Today Joc had the sudden inclination to have lunch at Changi Point, the mall near our office. She brought me to this place called The Asian Kitchen. They had a promo for Standard Chartered cardholders – a set meal for only S$15. So Joc and I decided to split one order which already includes their signature original roast chicken, a side of winter dumplings, rice, and soda. I really loved the chicken! The meat was tender, moist and flavorful, like the meat had been marinated for a while to allow the juices to seep in. The skin was slightly crispy too. The dumplings were really delicious as well.

After we polished off everything, we then enjoyed dessert, a slice of Chocolate of a Thousand Leaves cake which Joc had earlier bought from a neighbouring cafe, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. The cake had many layers – bittersweet fudge, mousse, and a sweet sponge base. Joc noted that the layers in themselves were either too bitter or too sweet, so I suggested eating them all together to balance the flavors out. It worked and the cake then tasted wonderfully.

It was a meal worth going to the mall for. (Usually we just buy takeaway food from a hawker stall or crack open a can of tuna and eat it in our pantry.)
