Whenever I go to watch a movie in Cathay, I pass by this restaurant and I’ve always wanted to try their sloppy joes. Last Friday when we watched Django Unchained (read my movie review here), I finally got to try! After all these years! Yay!!!! 😀

A sloppy joe is actually like non spicy chili in hamburger form. Wait… what? I mean it’s made up of ground beef and therefore looks like chili, but it’s not spicy, or at least not as spicy as chili is. So because it’s not packed like a normal patty, it looks messy, hence the name – probably. It’s a sound hypothesis, isn’t it? Charly T’s sloppy joe also comes with cheese so extra points for that! 😀 It was delicious! Not in an overwhelming way, but like eating a simple but yummy home-cooked meal. The order comes with a side of fries and real chili to dip it in.

We also ordered dessert, so we asked the waiter for his recommendation. What he suggested was quite a mouthful – Kaiserschmarrn, which is actually just messed up pancakes with a scoop of ice cream. Messy-looking food seems to be our theme for this meal, huh? The name apparently means “the emperor’s mishmash” and is an Austrian dessert. An order is good for two (it says so on their menu). The waiter asked us if we wanted to add S$1 to change our vanilla ice cream to white chocolate cranberry, and it sounded interesting, so we said okay! The warm pancake contrasted very nicely with the cold ice cream. It’s yummy, though I had to pick out the raisins coz I don’t eat them.

I washed everything down with iced mocha. Before I ordered it, I actually asked the waiter: “Is your mocha too bitter?” coz I really hate those mochas that have such strong coffee that it’s too bitter, you know? He replied that it wasn’t, that it was just right. And sure enough, he didn’t lie to me! Yay again! The mocha was perfect for my palate! 😀
