Last Saturday, I met up with Maya and Gay. Another friend of ours had recommended this place called Medz in Orchard Central, saying that it was like a Mediterranean Marche but cheaper. Now we’re all huge fans of Marche and always game to try something new, so we decided to go there for lunch.
When we got there, we were greeted with this pretty view outside the restaurant.
We were then each handed a card that we need to present for swiping each time we order food from the different gourmet stations. When we got inside, we saw that the gourmet stations had been named after different countries and their cuisine.
Spain/Morocco |
France |
Turkey |
Greece/Italy |
There also stations not named after countries, though, like these:
Dessert |
Drinks |
When you ordered a dish, you would be given an electronic coaster that would alert you when your order is ready for picking up by lighting up and vibrating. Each coaster also indicates the name of the station lest you forgot where you had ordered your food. We had purposely ordered from different stations so we can try a lot of food, so all our coasters together look cute.
As for that rock marked “taken” – there is one such rock on each table. One side has nothing written on it, and when you occupy a table, you flip it to show the “taken” word, indicating to other customers that the table is already taken. Great idea, no?
So here’s all that we ordered, with the station where we got them.
Rosti with sour cream (forgot which station this came from) |
Paella (Spain) |
Seafood pasta (Italy) |
Duck Confit (France) |
Carrot cake (Dessert) |
Mocha Frappe (Drinks) |
The food was not bad, but not that good that I would crave for them and want to come back, if you get what I mean. I didn’t like the paella at all, it was too salty. They nailed the crispy skin of the duck confit, so this was my favorite of the lot, next to the drinks. I really loved my mocha frappe and Maya’s avocado shake was super yummy too. Our verdict is that Marche is better, but since that’s always crowded, you could come here instead if you’re just after the same ambiance.
