I had brunch with my friends Arlyn, Yves, Betchie and Maribeth last Sunday. Betchie read about this place called Spruce online. It specializes in all-day breakfast menus for the weekends and even though it’s out of the way, a lot of people go there, so she made a reservation for us for 12 noon. We didn’t want to risk getting lost so Arlyn and I decided to meet up at Orchard MRT and take a cab from there.
They tried to make up for it with bright pictures on the walls though.
Hi waiter, can you please take our picture? |
And all those trees surrounding the place also helped. We even spotted a squirrel which Betchie just had to take a picture of.
Why hello there, Mr. Squirrel! 😀 |
The place really packs quite a crowd at noon so it was very noisy with all the families and kids and the sound of the heavy rain and loud booming thunder.

Now I said this was brunch, right, which meant that none of us had had breakfast yet, so we were quite famished as we pored over the menu and chose our orders. To our delight, the food arrived quickly even though it was a full house, so plus points for that!
So here’s what we had:
The Spruce Big Brekkie Eggs (Scrambled, Poached or Sunny Side Up), bacon, German sausage, roasted tomato, roasted potato, mushrooms and foccacia toast |
The Spruce British Brekkie Eggs (Scrambled, Poached or Sunny Side Up), bacon, Cumberland sausage, Baked beans, roasted tomato, mushrooms and foccacia toast |
Cajun Prawns Benny Toasted ‘everything’ bagel, poached egg, dill hollandaise, Cajun prawns |
Banana Hotcakes Honeycomb Butter and Blueberry Syrup |
Carrot cake |
I was really craving pancakes that week so that’s what I ordered. I had a hard time locating it on the menu though and had to call a waitress to ask her about it. How lame am I? Haha. Arlyn then ordered the big brekkie and we both shared our orders. The pancakes look quite messy and confusing and I could say the same for its taste. It does taste good, yes, but I think I prefer my pancakes uncomplicated. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t it enjoy it though. I was also quite happy with the big brekkie.
Our collective verdict is that the food is delicious and in just the right proportions for an average female Asian tummy. Other restaurants usually have gigantic proportions so you can’t finish one meal by yourself and it goes to waste. We were still so full afterwards though!
