There are days when you don’t like looking too made up. I personally hate the cakey look that you get from using foundations and powders. So what do you do, then? Go au naturel? Of course not! Haha. What you do is go for a product with light coverage, but with coverage nonetheless. And that’s where tinted moisturizers come in.
What is tinted moisturizer, you say. E-how defines it well:
Tinted moisturizer is a type of facial makeup that combines the benefits of foundation and moisturizer. More sheer and “breathable” than traditional foundation, it offers cosmetic benefits that regular moisturizer cannot. Tinted moisturizers offer a middle ground for those who dislike thick makeup but still want a hint of coverage, and they have become popular because of their light feel and natural look. Like foundation and moisturizer, tinted moisturizer can be used as a base for other cosmetics, but many women choose to wear the product alone, especially during the summer months.
The most popular tinted moisturizer around has got to be Laura Mercier. It’s consistently won best tinted moisturizer awards on beauty magazines and blogs and on Makeup Alley it has well over a thousand views! So I decided to give it a shot to experience firsthand what all the hype is about.
Since I have combination skin, I chose the oil free version in sand color. The fact that the product already has SPF is a plus for me, so I don’t need to put it on in a separate product.
The first time I put it on, my initial reaction was: “Okay, nothing happened.” Haha. It has very light coverage, especially if you put it on with your fingers. But putting it on with a brush gives it better coverage, somewhat. If you have clear skin, this could work, but if you need better coverage, then might want to look elsewhere. Or maybe you can still use this and just put concealer on your imperfections.
Later on, however, I noticed that it gave me a dewy, healthy, natural-looking glow that you just can’t get with a foundation. My friend actually complimented me on it, saying, “I like your make up today!”
The price puts me off, however, since it’s so expensive and you can get the same effect from BB creams which are essentially tinted moisturizers with added skin benefits. My only problem with BB creams is that their color is too ashy, so maybe I just need to scout around for the perfect brand that has color (I think they call them CC these days?) yet doesn’t break me out or make me look too oily. But until this runs out, I’m sold.
