Neil, an old friend of mine, was in Singapore for a work trip, so we met up last night. After dinner and a river cruise, the night was still young so we decided to walk to the Raffles Long Bar to have some of their famous Singapore Sling. Some info from their website:
The Singapore Sling, widely regarded as the national drink, was first created in 1915 by Raffles bartender Ngiam Tong Boon. Primarily a gin-based cocktail, the Singapore Sling also contains pineapple juice, lime juice, curaçao and Bénédictine. Giving it the pretty pink hue are grenadine and cherry liqueur. Bartender Ngiam deliberately chose to give the cocktail this rosy colour.
Here’s the funny thing – despite being in Singapore for nine years, I had never been in there before.
What’s interesting about this bar is that each table has a sack of peanuts. You can eat them and then throw the shells on the floor.
It’s a quirky thing which makes it interesting to come here, but maybe not often, because the price of one Singapore Sling at S$31 is definitely steeper compared to other bars.
I’m glad Neil suggested this place, so I could try this interesting experience.
