I have a habit of being enamored with complete strangers that I see on the small and big screens. I’ve decided to compile a list of my top ten major celebrity crushes from high school until today.
Nick Carter. I was a huge fan of the Backstreet Boys when I was in high school, and Nick was my favorite, even though he had a tinny voice, just because I thought he was cute. Even now when we sing Backstreet Boys on the karaoke and the background is their music video, I like to scream “I love you Nick!!!” at the screen because it makes me feel like a teen again. LOL. I don’t follow the new songs of the BSB anymore, though. I was over them in high school.
Prince William of Wales. Prince William was a teenage heartthrob, and I was one of his legions of admirers. I forgot about him until recently when he got engaged. Now I’m a huge admirer of his wife Kate. And no, I don’t mean in a lesbian way, silly! I still do think he’s attractive, though, despite his receding hairline.
Brendan Fraser. I fell for this guy when I saw him on Mrs Winterbourne. I had only seen it on TV and didn’t see the title nor catch his name on the credits and was so annoyed that I didn’t know his name. This was back when there was no Google yet. I later found out when HBO showed With Honors. I liked him so much that there was one time we stayed in the cinema for an entire afternoon to watch his movie George of the Jungle three consecutive times.
Leonardo Di Caprio. I fell for him in Titanic. But then again, who didn’t? I remember how my classmate commented on how everyone started screaming the moment his eyes – just the eyes, mind – were flashed onscreen. Haha. Today I don’t find him attractive anymore but I admire his acting, so he remains to be one of my favorite hollywood actors.
Val Kilmer. I fell for him in Batman Returns. I know a lot of people didn’t really like that movie but I did, for superficial reasons. I like his lips, not sure why. But that was just a brief spell. Where is he now, by the way?
Brad Pitt. I came in late to the Brad Pitt fans club. I forgot when I appreciated him. It was either in Friends (when he guest-starred) or in the movie Mr and Mrs Smith. He was my ultimate crush for a while and seeing him in person was even on my bucket list, haha! Now he doesn’t have an effect on me anymore, dunno why.
Gerard Butler. I first liked him on the Phantom of the Opera. He’s the phantom, and half of his face is hidden, but he still looked hot, and that voice! One of the admirable things I discovered about him while I was in my obsession period is that he once jumped into a river to save a drowning stranger. I also heard, though, that he’s quite the ladies man, so… offset?
Hugh Jackman. I went nuts over him in Wolverine. I went through a phase when I watched all his movies, made his picture as my desktop wallpaper, the works. Haha. I don’t think he’s that hot anymore now, but I admire his acting chops and the fact that he can sing in musicals and not have that detract from his manliness, so I keep tabs on his movies.
Darren Criss. I first saw him on Glee where he plays a gay character, so I didn’t like him yet. Then someone mentioned that he was on a Harry Potter musical on Youtube. I watched that and loved it so much that I started researching about Starkidd, its producers. When I found out about Darren’s other talents – guitar, song-writing, and that he was smart, I started to admire him. But I got over him when Glee’s season 3 came around.
Benedict Cumberbatch. When I first saw him on Sherlock, I thought, “Why did my friend say he was attractive? He looks scary!” Then a few episodes later, to my surprise, I had fallen under his spell! Brainy is the new sexy! Since then I’ve seen most of his movies and TV shows and admire his brilliant acting skills and the fact that he is intelligent in real life and not just as a character. Even though I’m no longer at the peak of my obsession, he is still my current celebrity crush.
And that’s it, my top ten! Care to share yours?

Honestly, I can't think of any celebrities I crushed on. I was always more attached to fictional characters in comics or novels, which led to its own issues.

How did Prince William's military service affect his crush-status?
Dee says
Ah yes, I also fell in love with fictional characters in novels! The latest one that pops to mind is Peeta of the Hunger Games.

It elevated his status! Military equals plus plus crush points! 😀
