My friends were buzzing about this movie so I just had to go watch, even though I had already forgotten what happened in the first movie, The Rise of Cobra. Despite being hazy on the background story, though, I still enjoyed Retaliation. It did not disappoint!
The story is a bit ridiculous, though, so you need to completely suspend your disbelief and just go with the flow. I did just that and enjoyed the movie purely for visual factor.
My favorite was the fight scene on the mountains that involved lots of ninjas swinging from peak to peak using ropes or climbing gear, and it was so beautiful that it was almost like watching a ballet. (Ummm… weird description much? I’m sorry but this was what popped through my mind while watching it! But it’s not girly at all, promise!) I have never been this impressed with a film-choreographed fight scene since I saw Nefertiti and Anaksunamun battling in The Mummy Returns back when I was a highly impressionable teen.
No that’s not Spiderman |
I had one major gripe, though. This guy – Flint, played by D.J. Cotrona.
And the worst GI Joe award goes to |
I’m sorry, but while he’s a real hottie (my girl friends who watched the movie with me kept on mentioning this fact), he can’t act to save his life. He’s one of the worst actors I have ever seen, the male version of Kristen Stewart, and I just can’t believe that someone actually had to die for him in the movie. I wish he had been the one to get killed off instead! @__@
And oh, SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! Click on “Read more” or Scroll down at your own risk!
Speaking of someone dying, most of my girl friends have another major gripe as well, pertaining to another hottie.
Don’t get too attached. He dies in the very next scene. |
That caption made me laugh. I happened upon it on this site.

I saw a TV critic dumping on this for being totally boring ie nothing but explosions with no point. Good to see a positive review! I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously…

Movie critics have overly high expectations. Sometimes dumb movies can be fun to watch too.
