“I’d like to pay for this, please,” I said, pushing the tag across the counter to the cashier. He looked in confusion at the tag, which was missing the item it was supposed to be attached to. “I’m wearing it,” I explained, pointing to the dress I had on.
Black polka dot dress, cardigan, scarf – Cotton On, Nude jelly bow tie slippers – Rubi |
Earlier, I had a dye job done at a salon. I had expected to go back home to change for my movie date {The Great Gatsby} with my friends, so I wore lounge-about-the-house wear – a mismatched top and skirt with a cardigan. The first things I could get my hands on, really.
But there were too many customers in the salon so my dye job took longer than I expected so that I would be late for the movie if I still went home to change. So I walked into the nearby mall’s Cotton On, quickly pored through the racks, grabbed a few tops and dresses, and tried them on in the fitting room. Luckily there was no one else queueing. I settled on the one I liked most, the black polka dot dress pictured above, and put my cardigan, which coincidentally was also from Cotton On, over it. Then I quickly put on makeup in the same fitting room – powder, cheek tint, eyebrow powder, lipstick – before making my way to the cashier.
The cashier smiled and didn’t comment on the weirdness of the situation. I wondered if a lot of people did this. “Would you like a scarf with that, ma’am?” he asked, indicating the rack of S$2 scarves behind the counter. Hmmm… a scarf is just the perfect accessory to cover up the way-too-revealing neckline of this dress, I realised. “I’ll have the pink one, please.”
And that is how I impulsively lived last Saturday. How about you, ever did something on an impulse, either out of necessity or just because you felt like it?

I have totally done this before. I've had to ask the cashier for scissors to get the tags off. I never give myself enough time!

Glad to know I'm not the only weird one!
