The Mother

“I am going to kill The Mother on HIMYM,” Chi typed in our chat room of four, after three of us gave our opinions about The Mother. “I don’t understand you!!” Poor Chi doesn’t watch How I Met Your Mother.

“Hahaha. Sorry! But after 8 seasons of waiting, they finally showed The Mother,” I explained. “So all the HIMYM fans are freaking out.”

“Hahaha yes, everywhere!” Chi pointed out. “Someone said, ‘I don’t like the mother!’ I thought they had a fight at home!” Well that was funny. Hahaha.

I’m sorry but I don’t think I can consider myself a true HIMYM fan if I don’t talk about The Mother. I wanted to blog about her last Tuesday when I first “met” her but I didn’t want to be receiving end of cries of foul for revealing spoilers, which happened to the HIMYM official fan page when they posted this picture so soon after the episode:

• Kids, back in 2013… HIMYM facebook page ruined the show.
• Kids, Let me tell you about How I Met the Mother… I saw a picture of her on Facebook. Cool story, right?
• You do realise that people who don’t live in the US and haven’t seen the episode are also fans of this page….right?
• Youuuuuuu Sonovabeetch!
• This better be a joke. I didnt wait 8 years to read this on facebook before i could watch the episode.
• MOTHER OF SPOILERS (literally)
• it’s gonna be legen… – DON’T WAIT FOR IT LET’S JUST SPOIL IT FOR EVERYONE RIGHT NOW – dary.
• Whoever thought posting this would be a good idea should be fired.
• Thank you HIMYM Facebook page, for ALWAYS ruining the content of the new episodes for anyone who didn’t catch the premiere. You guys suck.
• I’ve been waiting 8 years for a FACEBOOK POST!?
• There is a special place in hell for people who spoil tv shows for everyone. Thanks jerks who operate this page.
• You just met…wait for it…. Dozens of thousands of pissed off FB users.

And those comments got hundreds of likes which means a lot of people agree with them.

I hate spoilers myself but unlike these people, I didn’t mind seeing the face of the mother before I saw the episode. In fact when I found out that she had been revealed, finally, and I was still at work, I googled for a picture and was led to this.

Then I worked like mad and luckily, the Universe cooperated and my work was done early so I got to go home early, rushing home in a panic. God help me and my low EQ. Funny coincidence that I was carrying a yellow umbrella on the day that I met the girl with the yellow umbrella. It had rained that morning and I had forgotten my folding umbrella in the office, so I had to use the non-folding yellow one. Is it my lucky charm now, that yellow umbrella? LOL.

Anyway. Back to The Mother. Some people were disappointed when they saw her, saying:

• Am I the only one who thinks she isn’t that pretty?
• i expected someone prettier
• She’s honestly soooo not what I expected
• OMG the mother is ugly. I don’t want to watch season 9 anymore.

To be honest, I don’t think she’s that pretty either, especially compared to Robin, Ted’s major one-that-got-away, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say “ugly.” I guess you can’t blame people because of the unusually high expectations. Waiting 8 seasons can do that to you. But looks aren’t everything, so I’m still gonna tune in to know what she’s like and what makes her the perfect Mrs. Mosby.

The role of The Mother has gone to Cristine Millioti, a TV unknown who is actually a Broadway actress. Some more info on her can be found here.
