Sadness is my least favorite emotion. But what can we do, sometimes things happen and we can’t avoid it. Life is unfair that way. What should you do to make that heavy feeling in your heart go away?
(1) Sob fest. Get it out of your system and don’t let if fester inside of you. (Make sure not to wipe eyes during the process so they don’t get puffy. Only wash face after all cried out.)
(2) Eat chocolates. They stimulate the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that bring on feelings of pleasure. They also contain the chemical serotonin which acts as an anti-depressant.
(3) Drink wine. Drink it straight out of the bottle.
(4) Pull a Robin Scherbatsky and crawl under a table to do all above three at once.
(5) Go for a run. Exercise also produces endorphins.
(6) Retail therapy. Buy a little something to cheer you up. Just make sure not to spend an exorbitant amount otherwise you’ll have another thing to be depressed about when your credit card bill comes next month.
(7) Distract yourself. Throw yourself into work or some other activity that will take your mind off your sadness.
(8) Talk to someone. A listening ear and some comforting words really helps.
(9) Hug someone. It’s therapeutic.
(10) Pet or play with an animal. This raises serotonin levels and makes you feel better.
(11) Dive into another world. Read a non-depressing book. Watch a comedy film. Dig out old episodes of Friends or How I Met Your Mother.
(12) Look at a beautiful view. (Note: a person can count as a view, too.)
(13) Listen to happy music. Feel free to sing along. Better yet – karaoke!
(14) Help someone else with his problems. Thinking about other people’s problems makes you forget about your own.
(15) Get some sleep. Rest is an amazing healer.
(16) Write. You can write about it as a way to vent, or just about anything, really! It helps, I swear. In fact I feel better already.
What about you? How do you cope with depression?

You can also just combine the second and third ones, and drink chocolate wine. Mmm, mmm.

Be well, Dee.

xoRobyn

You covered it pretty well. For me it depends what has me down and then what path I choose. I rarely drink, eat chocolate or spend money to cheer me up, I do those things but for fun and only if I have funds available. When depressed I tend to rant/talk seriously with my husband or mom, watch television, listen to music or read. Notice exercise is nowhere to be found LOL. Teasing, I do walk, yep
