My friend Ngangi had a layover flight in Singapore, so we met for breakfast in Changi airport last Saturday.
She and I are called the riddlers because of a funny story involving a mutual like for a giant book of riddles during our childhood (when we weren’t friends yet) which you can read about here.
She used to live in Singapore, where we became friends, and this is her first time to be back after three years, so she was pretty excited about it. She wanted to eat in McDonalds. Why there, of all places, when she also has McDonalds in the Philippines? Because of cinammon melts. Apparently, there are no cinnamon melts in the Philippine McDo branches.
We both ordered the same meal – hotcakes with sausage and a side of turkey bacon and iced latte, save for the cinnamon melts. I don’t like cinnamon. Dunno why, I just never did. I guess that’s the reason why I also don’t know how to spell it. Thanks, Blogger, for the red squiggly line warning. (I’ve already corrected it, in case you’re wondering.)
I asked about her vacation in Melbourne and Sydney, and she recounted it for me. There wasn’t much to recount aside from that because we are updated on each other’s lives through chat.
But as what always happens when the two of us nerds are together, we somehow got around to a nerdy topic. I think it happened when one of us had a hard time remembering something, and I said, “Did you know that there was a study that revealed that older people have a hard time remembering things not because their brains have declined, but because there is just more information in their brains to sift through? Kind of like a computer. The more files you have on it, the slower it gets.”
“OMG that makes so much sense!” she chirped, fascinated. “We should stop reading too much!!!” I know. This is the reason why her sister calls us soul mates. Hahaha.
Then she had to catch her flight, so we walked to terminal 2, and on the way, we found this:
“What is that supposed to be a replica of?” Ngangi asked, gesturing at the majestic piece of art.
“I dunno,” I shrugged, fingers poised to hit Google on my phone.
“Look, there’s an explanation in the Russian doll!” she pointed out. Sure enough, there was. It was St. Basil’s Cathedral, said the poster.
As I took out my camera to snap a photo of the poster, she yelled, “Nooooo!” My heart stopped. Was there a sign saying this wasn’t allowed? That it was finable? What????
“Don’t store that information, it will slow down your brain, remember??” she pointed out. OMG. Hahaha!
I’m really glad I had a moment with Ngangi. I hope we’ll be reunited again soon.
